I’ve tried many different types of dance over the years, but American Tribal Style® belly dance caught my attention and grabbed my imagination in 2003 when I saw Mayurichaal perform at the Saskatoon Fringe Festival. I signed up as soon as classes started that fall. Mayurichaal (at Oriental Dance Arts) went on to become Canada’s very first Fat Chance Belly Dance® Sister Studio.
After a number of years I returned to my hometown of Regina, where there was (and is) a lively belly dance community, including tribal, but no ATS®. In January 2011 I began teaching ATS® at a local studio. I’ve since gone solo and have been teaching ATS® at all levels since September 2016.
I currently perform ATS® and, occasionally, tribal fusion.
I’ve taken workshops with Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman (Fat Chance Belly Dance/FCBD®), Megha Gavin (Devyani), Sandi Ball (FCBD®), Devi Mamak (Ghawazi Caravan), Rachel Brice, Kami Liddle, Sonia, Lava, Lisa Zahiya, Cera Byer, Lisa Hyde, Mira Betz.
I’ve taken classes, and in some cases performed, in the following other styles: Ukrainian (Poltava Ensemble); Bhangra (Mosaic India Pavilion); Kathak; Egyptian; Tribal Fusion; Cuban Salsa; Dancehall. I’ve also done Taekwon-Do, Karate, and Taiko (Japanese drumming), and have sung solo and in a number of choirs (U of R Performance Choir, U of S Greystone Singers, Trinity Hall (Cambridge) Chapel Choir).
